Big news has arrived for London fitness fans. In fact, If you're planning on training for HYROX, today is the perfect day to begin. Public tickets for HYROX London at the ExCeL are now on sale. The event takes place from 2 December to 6 December 2026.

Whether you plan to race solo or as part of a team, August is the ideal time to start training for HYROX. Because you have four full months to prepare, you will have plenty of time to build your endurance and strength safely.

Here is how you can kickstart your preparation at Topnotch Gyms this month.

Understand the HYROX Race Format

HYROX combines functional fitness with total-body endurance. Specifically, the race format always consists of eight 1km runs, with each run followed by one official functional workout station.

To help you prepare effectively, here is the exact order of the workout stations you will face after each 1km run:

  • Station 1 begins with a 1km run into the 1,000m SkiErg.
  • Next up, you will tackle the Sled Push.
  • Following that, the challenge continues with the Sled Pull.
  • Afterwards, you must complete the Burpee Broad Jumps.
  • Then, you move directly onto the 1,000m Rowing.
  • Moving forward, your grip strength is tested with the Farmers Carry.
  • Next, you push through the Sandbag Lunges.
  • Finally, the race finishes strong with 100 Wall Balls.

Because building the strength and stamina for these movements takes time, starting in August gives you a clear advantage. Indeed, early preparation makes a huge difference.

Build Your Running Engine First

Running makes up a large part of the race. For that reason, building a solid running base should be one of your first goals.

To begin, start with two easy runs each week. Additionally, focus on keeping a steady and comfortable pace rather than pushing for speed early on.

Gradually, you can increase your distance as your fitness improves. As a result, the workout stations will feel much easier on race day.

Practice Functional Workouts at the Gym

Running alone will not prepare you for HYROX. Therefore, you should combine your running sessions with targeted functional strength training.

For example, practice sled pushes and pulls to build leg drive. Furthermore, add kettlebell carries and SkiErg intervals to simulate race conditions. At the same time, include short runs between exercises so that your legs learn to perform under fatigue.
